Amazing! I would give this book 7 stars on a 5 star scale. I've read this book at least 8 times and I learn more about the book and myself every time. The Stripling Warrior series by Misty Moncur is my favorite series.

Based on a story in The Book of Mormon, these fictional characters are passionate, swoon worthy and righteous individuals. The read is engaging and introspective and as Keturah tries to fight her way into the all boy militia two of those warriors begin a fight for her courageous heart.

This book is so good. Misty gives you so much to think about and chew over. This series is great book club material. I would have loved to sit down and talk to my mom about these issues. There are discussion questions at the end of the book, but other topics might include:

Family or social expectations
Obedience
Gender roles
Being honest to yourself/finding yourself
Honoring your parents
Balancing duty and desire
Courage and fear
How to exercise your faith as you share your talents
How to develop your inner beauty as a daughter of God

This book is clean. After reading it I am inspired to be a better me. It is for all ages and I highly encourage all to read it!

this is a most read. lots of good stuff. action, love, and so on.
I realize that this may not be true to the time period, but it is a great book. I was thrilled with the strong female lead character, and a small romance to boot. I really hope Ms Moncur is writing a continuation.
This is the first of a trilogy. It is about a story found in the Book of Mormon concerning a group of 2000 young boys called the "strippling warriors". This one young girl also wants to be a warrior. I couldn't wait to read all three books!
Ms. Moncour gets a lot of things spot-on right in this novel, the story of a teenage girl struggling to understand her heart and free the warrior inside. It's beautifully written and the characters are believable. This is clearly the first in a series, and one in which the main character is being introduced and fleshed out. It is light on action and heavy on character development, but promises greater action and drama to come. Ms. Moncour is also very good at developing romantic tension. This installment bodes very well for this series.
I will always look at the story of the stripling warriors a little differently now. Loved the insights and the way she posted the amazing kids.
The book was well written. The story was engaging and the characters were interesting. The scenes Ms. Moncur created really brought me into the atmosphere of the surroundings where the story took place. Like the first reviewer, I caught several places where the characters spoke in "modern vernacular". I didn't know if it was intended or not, but I thought it was cute- though consistency would be better. I found what to me was a glaring mistake in the story's historical reference when Keturah was speaking with Joab close to the day she received her sword, Joab made reference to their history of Nephi having broken his bow and "even our father Laman was angry with him, and the Lord showed him whither to go to find food". I believe that it was "Father Lehi" that was being referenced, not Laman. Laman was always the ring-leader in rebellion. Lehi was their father and prophet of the Lord, though he did murmur against the Lord on that occasion. If the author is going for accuracy in her setting, that was a badly edited section of the story.

Like others reviewing this book, I too am looking forward to the next segement of the story which I hope will be coming out soon. My curiosity has been whetted. Good work, Misty Moncur.
I absolutely loved the girl power in this book. Yes, the stripling warrior were boys but just what if. I would be like Keturah honestly. Wanting to fight but as a mother now I would be doing my responsibilities. I want to know what happens next though. Great story based on the Book of Mormon.
